Easy Ways to Annoy Your Agent

When we successfully place a client with a reputable agency, we spend some time discussing ways that they can start off on the right foot with their agent. In a new industry with a totally different lingo and set of expectations it can be hard to navigate at first. Avoid these common mistakes that annoy your booker!

Don't Steal Their Clients

Agents work hard to develop strong relationships with designers, showroom managers, producers, directors, etc. If your agency has introduced you to a specific fashion or commercial client, please respect that they made that introduction and only work for that client through the agency. Not only is this required based on your talent contract, but it’s also the right thing to do.

Always Book Out

Your agent works hard behind the scenes to pitch you for projects, even when you’re not aware that they are. Nothing is more frustrating than when your agency gets you a great gig, only to find out you’re out of the country during the booking dates. Be sure you let your agency know with advanced notice when you are totally unavailable for castings or bookings, that’s called booking out.

Don’t Change Your Look Drastically

It can be fun to switch up your look with a major hair cut or color change. But any big adjustments to your aesthetic (including tattoos or piercings) should first be discussed with your agency, as you are contractually obligated to do. They really don’t like to be surprised by this. And don’t forget, if you suddenly go from brunette to blonde, you’ll need to swiftly schedule a photoshoot to update your headshots and portfolio images.
