Networking 101

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “It’s not what you know, but who you know.”

From our experience, it’s a bit of both. Here are some easy tips to make the most of your networking opportunities.

At your next casting or go-see, meet the other models in the waiting area. Forget that you’re both up for the same gig and connect with other people who probably have some of the same interests or skillsets as you.

Use your comp cards and/or headshots to your advantage. These are like calling cards. Pass them out to industry insiders like casting directors, photographers, makeup artists, producers, directors and acting coaches. After you meet with agents, send a thank you note with your comp card included. Nothing makes you more memorable than presenting your professional materials.

Connect with industry insiders you admire on social media. Let folks know what you’re up to by consistently posting your professional imagery, updated digitals, pretty selfies, casting videos, behind the scenes footage on set, etc.

Whenever you attend an audition, get the contact information for the professionals you’re meeting with and follow up with an email or a thank you card. Happy networking!
